Our vocabulary tree of 'Word of the Day' is coming along! These are our Autumn Term words so far:
Our writing focus for this half term is non-chronological reports. We will be researching the well-known explorer and adventurer, Alastair Humphreys.

During Autumn 1, we worked hard to write a setting description of 'Bag End' from the Hobbit. These are some examples of our finished published writing:
We have been writing setting descriptions about 'Bag End' from 'The Hobbit. We also wrote shape poems- they took a lot of time and patience, but the effect was worth it!
As well as using DADWAVERS!, we have been learning how to incorporate 'Alan Peat sentences' into our writing to engage the reader and make our writing more interesting. These are the techniques we will be trialling over the next few weeks:

We introduce a new WOTD every day. This helps us build up the rich and varied language that we use in our work. When we look at our WOTD, we look at its eptymology, its definition, its word class and we form a sentence of our own to show that we have understand how to use it in a sentence.
Here are some of the new words that we have looked at this term so far.

This year we have chosen a variety of core texts to support the work that we do in our English lessons. We will use excerpts from our core textas well as a variety of other excerpts to support whatever unit outcome we are working towards.
