Oak - Science
In Summer Term 1, Oak Class will be focusing on plant growth. Take a look at our overview below:
This term we have been focusing on different scientific experiments such as testing materials to see if they are waterproof and exploring what happens to items when placed in water.
One experiment we loved, focused on placing a gingerbread man in water to see what would happen. Oak Class found it very amusing when it came out of the water in a big mess!

In Spring Term 2, Oak Class will be focusing on investigating Science through stories and fairy tales. Take a look at the overview below:
In Science, we have been learning about some famous scientists throughout history. This week our focus was learning about Jane Goodall and her research on chimpanzees. We created our own binoculars and went on a search around the school for chimpanzees.

This week in Science, Oak Class have started to explore animals and how we can group them.

In Spring Term 1, Oak Class will be focusing on comparing animals. Take a look at our overview below:
We have been curious scientists recently and started to discuss questions scientists may ask. Over the last week we have created wormeries so that we can observe these over time and explore what happens.

In Autumn Term 2, Oak Class will be focusing on Microhabitats. Take a look at our overview below:

This week we started to look at minibeasts and how we could classify them. We used a key to arrange and classify different minibeasts.

Continuing our topic of materials, Oak Class have been exploring which materials are absorbent and which are waterproof. We experimented by placing some water on different materials to observe what would happen.

This week in Science we have started to explore materials. We worked together to sort objects according to what material they are made from.

To start our Science in Autumn Term 1, Oak Class began by exploring what a scientist is. The children drew what they thought a scientist looked like and we shared our ideas to create a mind map.
Oak Class had a great time exploring what some scientists do every day. This included an enquiry of what would sink or float, finding magnetic items in the classroom, creating potion recipes and focusing on detail using magnifying glasses.
Throughout the year we will be learning about different seasons and exploring our outside area in each of these. This week we started to explore Autumn and discussed our ideas of what this may look like. We went outside to look at the weather and environmental conditions.
